Online Security for Your Information and Data

At FamilyAndHeirs.com we believe that your private information and your private papers need to stay private. We also believe that your private information is “none of our business,” so we've written our custom-built website so that even our administrative people can't see your data in our Admin Panel.

We provide a very comprehensive Pre-Planning Questionnaire where you can provide your answers to the many questions your family will have when you're gone, and your answers, and the documents you upload, are held in Secure Digital Storage.

We use the most secure web server we could find and we've “hardened” it against hacker attacks with multiple levels of additional hardware and software protections. Our server is a managed, monitored, and dedicated server.  All your inputted data is kept in encrypted form, so even if a hacker were to get past our security, the data would be useless. Your files cannot even be located.

Your two passwords, the Account Password and the “Read-Only” Password (that you can provide to your most trusted heir or heirs), allow access to your information and uploaded files and also serve as the decryption keys (to “un-encrypt” your encrypted data). That's why it is so important that you have very “unguessable” passwords that you keep securely. No matter how much security we provide, your passwords are the keys, so keep them private.

Our special “Read-Only” password allows those to whom you have given it to access your information and your documents, but they cannot add, delete, or change anything.  You can give this Read-Only password to one or to several trusted family members, so that when you pass, they will be able to read your answers to the many questions they will have and to view the documents you have uploaded.

Additionally, at FamilyAndHeirs.com we have “Two Factor Authentication” ("2FA") available on our site. If you enable 2FA (and we recommend that you do so), then every time you log in you will receive, via email to your registered email address, a Verification Code that you must input to complete the login process before you will gain access to your information. Thus, if some unauthorized person should get or guess your Account Password, the system will not allow access until the verification code that was sent to your email is typed in.

Just how seriously we at FamilyAndHeirs.com take your online security can be seen in our Privacy Policy: It begins, “We will not sell, lend, give, or share your private information with anyone for any reason.”  Obviously, it's longer than that, and we invite you to read the entire policy.  A lot of online companies make a lot of money selling personal data.  We do not do any of that, not even slightly.  Not a dime's worth, not a penny's worth, and we don't give it away, share it, or lend it either.

But please don't forget your part in keeping your data secure: Please don't use a dictionary word as your password, or a simple keyboard pattern, or a password you use elsewhere to secure your information. If you ever believe that, somehow, your password has been compromised, please change one or both passwords on our site immediately. (If you change the Read-Only Password, be sure to give your trusted heirs your new Read-Only Password.)

As you can see, at FamilyAndHeirs.com we take online privacy very seriously, and have taken every precaution available to keep your data secure.
